We came here for the first time last night and had a great meal. I had a 5:45 reservation but it wasn't needed as there were only ~3 other parties there when we arrived. It's a smaller restaurant, which added to the ambiance and intimate setting. I did get a little nervous wondering why no one else was eating here, but I guess not everyone has our early eating habits. By the end of the meal, the place was packed! We ordered the avocado queso fundido dip, which was excellent and a great start to our meal (our server, Christian, who was also excellent, said it's a very popular appetizer). There were a wide selection of many types of steaks, but I opted for the smash burger instead. And boy...it was a GREAT choice! It's one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was saucy, juicy, and messy - just the way a smash burger should be! I literally didn't need a single condiment (very rare for me) because the burger was simply perfect. I also loved the loaded baked potato, cooked just right. The only bummer were the glazed carrots, which were too sweet and didn't taste much like honey. A great experience and we will be back!
O-M-G! The Spotted Cow has the best rolls and cinnamon butter! These are the best rolls since "The Big Fat Yeast Roll" at Quincy's back in the 80's. IYKYK, am I right? Ok, right, so you didn't look at or go to this fine restaurant for the rolls but they are amazing and a good start to a great meal! The ribeye was cooked perfectly and had great flavor and the baked potato was spot on. Service was on point and the bar has good selections. Not a huge place inside but you can use Open Table to reserve your spot.
Went here for a friend's birthday over the summer and it was delicious!!! We all had such a lovely evening. I got a steak with chimichurri potatoes and man were they good! Can't wait to revisit asap
Ate at the bar. One of the best NY Strips I've ever had. Cool atmosphere and bartenders make a great Manhattan with homemade bitters
This is undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in Winston at the moment. The service and the food is always amazing, The ambiance is befitting for the location. I'd consider this place to be one of the intimate restaurants we have in the area. Their steaks are well seasoned and their sides are impeccable. I've been several times and they're always consistent with everything.
Bone in Ribeye was savory. Well prepped med-rare, perfect temp. Ruths Chris to cool often times. Very good texture on the carrots and nice crispy sprouts. comfy woody vibe, no loud echoey voices, great moody lighting, open floor, not pretentious at all! Ethan serves a very good goose-tonic. No internet. But, Danielle saw that I had some work to do on my ipad at bar and gave me access! dodgers Yankees... game 5.
This was our 1st visit to the Spotted Cow. The included yeast rolls with cinnamon butter are a divine & unexpected treat! All the entrees also include a house salad with choice of dressing. No frills on the salad as it's just lettuce, tomato, cheese, & croutons. I had the juicy & well-cooked herb shrimp with carrots. Something to note is the seafood dishes come over rice. My husband went more traditional with a 7 oz filet that was well prepared & a loaded baked potato for that old school steakhouse feel. The restaurant was super crowded and the inside is small so the tables are kind of packed in so it loses a few points on ambiance. Our server did an excellent job, was friendly, & our order came out timely & accurately. Highly recommend making a reservation due to the crowd even on a Tuesday night!
Casual downtown steakhouse with a lively dining area. The dining room is open and a bit crowded, so opt for the patio if you want a more intimate setting. Food and service were good, we weren't blown away by the steak but it was tender and presented nicely. Asked for medium rare and it came out rare, which was fine with us so we didn't mention it. Although the table next to us sent both their steaks back so it may have just been an off night in the kitchen. The Chilean sea bass with crab doesn't look pretty in my pic but it was very good, I would order that again. We both loved the lemon "shortcake" and it was huge! Would def get that again. Not overly sweet, and just the right bite of lemon. Street or valet parking.
I feel the need to review again - even though I'm giving 5 stars still. The first time was not just a fluke. This place is so good. We had an amazing experience for a birthday group, so I decided to bring another friend for their birthday as well! Our server this time was Randy and he was great. He was very attentive, down to earth and personable. He was super helpful with suggestions and just all around we had great service. The hostess, Michelle, is a gem! So efficient and she is so kind. Love seeing her upbeat energy when you walk in! I came back for seconds on the avocado queso - this stuff is GREAT! Fresh crispy chips and a solid portion. Nice for an appetizer because it's not too filling. I also LOVE the soft, pillowy rolls with cinnamon butter! Last time I got the filet and I must say it was perfect. This time I opted for the ribeye, and it was still great, but I think the first steak was slightly better. I wanted just a little more of that crusty sear on the outside for the ribeye, and it was also a little fattier than most, and it didn't crisp and render quite like I expected. Nevertheless, still a great steak, cooked to medium rare perfection. I got the mashed potatoes as my side, but the Brussels sprouts are really the star of the show. We got the brownie sundae for dessert and it was everything a brownie sundae should be! Piping hot brownie and creamy, melty vanilla ice cream. Decadent! This place does feel appropriate for special occasions, but for a steakhouse, the prices are super reasonable. Can't wait to come back a third time!
My husband and I ate at Spotted Cow to celebrate his birthday. He had been once before and had a good experience and word on the street is that it is delicious so I had high expectations. I guess I was anticipating a more traditional steakhouse vibe when we walked in (leather booths, etc). It's not unattractive it was just smaller than I had expected and I was disappointed that there were no booths, which is my dining preference. There is a wooden banquette running along one wall and then a row of tables for four (where we were seated). Nothing "wrong" with it, just not as private and cozy as I had imagined. Obviously my husband had no issues since had been there before and chose to return for this celebration! Our server was very nice and friendly and brought us delicious melt in your mouth rolls with honey butter. Bread is a great way to win me over. I had checked out the wine list ahead of time and after researching had settled on the Saint-Galet Chateauneuf Du-Pape. This was a delicious red blend that I highly recommend. It was a great accompaniment to both our steaks and sides. Husband and I paid $1 extra each to order "Chef Sides" vs "Steakhouse Sides" and I would say it was well worth it. I got the Chimichurri Potato Wedges and he got the Mac & Cheese, and we shared. Both were delicious and lovely accompaniments. I ordered the filet mignon, medium. It had a nice flavor but was more charred than I had expected and had no pink or red on the inside. My husband's steak was rarer than he had expected but still in the acceptable zone. Our entrees came out before our salads so we had to ask about our salads. By the time they arrived they looked nice but I didn't eat much of mine because I was pretty well into my main course at that point. For dessert we shared a slice of Creme brûlée cheesecake. This had the traditional crisp, caramelized sugar topping and was quite delicious. Overall, an enjoyable experience. I look forward to returning and enjoying the rolls and sides again. I plan to order the salmon.
